PlayersOnly Bankroll Challenge: Day 3

Oh my is all I can say about day 3. I played poker while watching the Brazil world cup game as well as the Lakers game 6 NBA finals. In the time, I had a lot of ups and downs as always. However, this time I didn't focus and bring myself back to even then make a profit.

I made myself a cup of coffee and open up 6 tables. 2 tables I sat alone the whole time. However, I multi-table 4 tables at the $0.10/$0.20 limit holdem cash game tables. For those of you that don't know. Let me explain why this is a very bad thing for me.

I am good with one table, ok with two tables, bad with three tables, and even worse with four tables.

While juiced up on coffee I managed to lose $22.34 before I ended my session. The only thing I could think about while playing after drinking that cup of coffee is more action, more action.

I would have lost a lot more. However, the one table I wasn't really looking at was giving me the action I needed (wanted) and my chip stack was growing and growing while I was getting my ass kicked at the other tables.

I learn 2 lessons from day 3 and because of these lessons I will be changing my focus for my poker career before I drive myself nuts.

  1. Limit holdem bores the shit out of me. Once that happens I open up my hand range to get more action.
  2. Me playing poker + drinking coffee = bad day of poker

Let's just take a look at the stats after bankroll challenge day 3.
Starting Bankroll - $35.92
Current Bankroll -  $13.58

As you can see the combo of coffee and bored from not enough action in limit holdem resulted in one bad day of poker for me.  This really got me thinking about my poker career as I don't like doing things I don't love nor enjoy. I love the game of poker however, I don't enjoy limit holdem as I once thought. The only reason I enjoyed it was because of how easy it is to win at limit holdem.

Now I realize a few things about myself. I am bored with limit holdem (I was bored before this bankroll challenge started), I need a real challenge, and most importantly a game I could really become a big name in.

The only two things I see people becoming big name's in is no limit holdem and pot limit omaha. I know for a fact I completely suck at no limit holdem for one reason. Whenever I get the feeling I want more action I push all in. I know just nuts right?

So that leaves me with pot limit omaha. I always have fun playing pot limit omaha. I don't know how to play PLO well so taking up the game will be fun to learn. So with that being said I came up with a few options as I write this. (Still feeling the effects of the coffee so my mind is running a mile a minute)

  1. Finish limit holdem bankroll challenge.
  2. Change to pot limit omaha and finish the bankroll challenge.
  3. Stop the bankroll challenge, learn pot limit omaha, then start the bankroll challenge over.

Let me know what you all think. I will come back to this once I got some sleep and really thought about this with a clear mind and not juiced up on coffee.

Still can't believe I blew that much in one day. Total disregard for bankroll management. Anyway, good night/morning everyone!

PlayersOnly Bankroll Challenge: Day 2

Wow, day 2 was a real battle. I played for hours! So much ups and downs then one big down swing. I know some of you know how I feel about $0.02/$0.04 micro stakes. Down right boring and some players just pushing the action with nothing and hit on the river to take down the pot.

After hours of playing these stakes. I was running really bad down $3. Then right before I decided to stop playing. I did something totally against bankroll management. I moved up to the $0.10/$0.20 ring game 6 max tables. I won the $3 back plus $0.90 to finish off my night of poker.

Bankroll Challenge Stats
Starting Bankroll - $35.02
Current Bankroll - $35.92

My thoughts on the bankroll challenge...
I feel this bankroll challenge is moving far too slow. 2 days into this challenge I am only up $1.87 and I am bored with 2 cent, 4 cent cash game tables. I won more than that at the 10 cent, 20 cent cash game tables.

Day 3 I am going to try something different. I will play at the $0.10/$0.20 ring game tables and see how much profit I can pull in. Maybe moving up stakes earlier than plan will speed things up and make things more fun for me.

PlayersOnly Bankroll Challenge: Day 1

My mastercard didn't allow me to make a deposit so I stopped by the store during my walk and bought a prepaid visa card. Sadly I didn't have enough money in my pocket to put on the card to start the bankroll challenge with $50.

So my starting bankroll will be $34.05 at playersonly. As stated before I will only be playing limit holdem cash games, freeroll tournaments, and RBR weekly pot limit omaha bounty tournament.

Since I am starting with $34.05 I will be playing at the $0.02/$0.04 limit holdem cash game tables until I reach $40 just to be on the safe side before moving up to $0.05/$0.10 tables. At a $0.02/$0.04 limit holdem table a full buyin is $0.80 chip stack. I aim to get 1 or 2 buyins a day.

So let's look at how I did on day one of the playersonly bankroll challenge. I started with a bankroll of $34.05 and ended my session with $35.02 for day 1. I gain $0.97 to my bankroll. I played a few hours but the table I was at the players made their moves so slow wasting time and I was up a lot more then $0.97 before stopping. However, I lost a few big pots so that drop my profit.

New Bankroll Challenge

In May poker stats, I stated that I will be starting a bankroll challenge on Full Tilt Poker playing only rush poker. After doing some serious thinking I will not be doing that bankroll challenge. I believe it's not a challenge at all using the strategy I came up with. However, I will be doing a bankroll challenge for you all to follow. It took me a few hours to think of something that will be a challenge as well as something that would be really fun.

PlayersOnly Bankroll Challenge

Just like the rush poker bankroll challenge. I will start playersonly bankroll challenge with $50 and will be playing cash games. However, it will not be rush poker and the goal is much higher. Also, I will be playing in the RakeBackRolls fun weekend pot limit omaha bounty tournament to relax from the challenge.

Challenge Details
Start Bankroll: $50
Bankroll Goal: $1,000
Game: Fixed Limit Texas Holdem
Type: Cash (Ring) Games
Other: 1 PLO Bounty Tournament Weekly

Following proper bankroll management I will need 300 times the big blind to play at a given table. Since I will be starting with $50, I will be playing at the 5 cent, 10 cent ring game tables. 2 tables at a time until I reach $60 to move up to the $0.10/$0.20 tables.

I will sure this bankroll challenge will take a while to complete since it's not rush poker or heads up. So I made a little chart below that will show the bankroll needed for each stakes level. I think the chart will explain why moving up stakes playing ring games take longer than playing heads up poker. Since heads up poker, you only need 20 times the buyin to play at a given stakes level.

Stakes - Bankroll Needed
$0.05/$0.10 - $30
$0.10/$0.20 - $60
$ 0.25/$0.50 - $150
$0.50/$1 - $300
$1/$2 - $600

As you can see from the chart above I will be playing at the $1/$2 stakes level to finish off the bankroll challenge. I am sure once I reach the $1/$2 tables, I will be making more money faster to close out the Playersonly Bankroll Challenge.
