Many say not to play poker tournaments because only 10% of the players in that tournament will get paid. Others have told me to go ahead in play poker. True only 10% of the players will place in cash. Improve your poker skills and you will be apart of that 10%.
Often times, I get bord around the 2 hours mark playing in a big poker tournament. Once that happens, I begin to make mistakes. This is because the game is no longer fun at that point for me. So to straighten up and play some solid ABC poker. I bring something new to table.
For example, playing one of your favorite songs may keep you from getting bord. Open up a cash game table while you are playing in your tournament just might help. (If you are not use to playing more than one table, please do not risk your tournament life by doing this.)
Other things you can do to keep yourself entertained is trying to make others go on tilt. Start talking in the chat box about something totally unrelated to poker. Find out what your opponents favorite boxer, MMA fighter, basketball team, etc. Once you know, talk bad about the team or player. Some people just can’t help themselves. They must defend their team. Which will kill their focus to play poker in the tournament.
Also remember, good bankroll management when buying into a poker tournament. Never use more than 2% of your bankroll to buy into a big tournament. I really don’t keep to this guideline which is why my bankroll always starts to fall over time. Don’t make the same mistakes I make.
Pros of playing in a poker tournament. The payout is big compared to playing a sit n go or sitting at a cash game. Once you are good at playing in big tournaments and cashing in them. Your bankroll grows pretty quickly from those cash wins from tournaments. Plus you are one step away from playing in big events.
Cons of playing in a poker tournament. Only the top 10% of the players will win cash. The tournaments are really long. You have to unjust your play more times than playing a sit n go.
As you can see the pros out weight the cons. I recommend playing in poker tournaments at least once or twice a week if you are not a tournament player. You never know what can happen. You just might take first place in your next big tournament.
