First Time Playing Live Poker

Yesterday was my very first time playing live poker. I got some advice about live poker from a good friend of mine the day before. So I was pretty calm and ready to play. Since the gulfstream park casino is only a 10 minute walk from my house. I had some time to think about what I was going to play when I got there.

Once I got to the casino and went to where the poker tables are at. I decided to play at $2/$4 limit texas hold’em table. The table was almost but it was getting pretty late, since I woke up from my suppose to be 2 hour nap. I woke up 4 hours after I was suppose to wake up. So when I got to the casino it was close to midnight and poker stops at 1am.

So I had less than a hour and half to play poker. I take my sit overjoyed inside and look pretty calm on the outside. No fear, just ready to play poker. I started off playing very solid ABC poker but realize I was getting the hands I wanted to play in selected positions. So after about 15 to 20 minutes. I threw position play out the window and played base on my hand range.

I won my very first hand with a straight! Yes, I was so happy in the inside but on the outside I looked pretty damn calm for my first time playing live poker. In my mind I was already thinking about the next hand. I guess its from all those hours playing online poker. We all know how that can get. Thanks to Rush Poker at Full Tilt Poker my mind is always on the next hand.

Anyway, I already decided I was going to until 1am. Which prove to be my down fall in the end. I bought in with $40 and got it over $60 before the table drop to just 3 of us playing. Everybody else at the table left because it was pretty late. Since there was only 3 of us at the table. The blinds was eating away at my chip stack. The guy to the left of me was raising almost every hand pre-flop.

I know what you thinking, its limit holdem make the call. I am very selective with my hands. Suited connectors I would gladly limp in but will not call a raise unless I was holding the ace. Finally the last hand of the night came around and I opened with a raise. Both players called, the flop came and I forgot what I had. lol I looked at my cards and hit my pair (10’s) on the flop. I bet both players fold. I counted my chips and noticed I only lose $6! Great for my first time.

All in all, I hate to say this but live poker is better than online poker! If you only been playing online poker and stay near a casino. Get off your butt and go play at least once this week in a casino. Don’t be afraid, just pick a limit holdem table to get use to playing poker live then you can hope over to the no limit texas holdem table. Because I know you want to. lol

Glad to hear you finally got to experience live poker. I have only played once at the Casino, but it is a real but.

I can totally relate with being very picky with my hands, so I can’t stand people who raise pre-flop.

lol oh man you would hate to play against me. I always raise pre-flop. I don’t want anyone limping with a shity hand and hit their card on the flop.

Nothing more madding than playing with pocket aces and some donkey limps in with 23os and 23 comes on the flop.

Live poker is great, you can pickup information you wouldn’t have picked up if you were playing online. Also, the compeition is much softer relative to the limits.
