Fun or Serious?
Blogspot bloggers should really ask themselves this question. Are you blogging for fun or serious about making money using your blog?
If you are blogging for fun then I agree with you. Blogspot is a great place for you to blog because theres no cost but time. For those that say they are serious, and really want to make money from it. Why the hell are you using blogspot? Domain cost ($9.29 at namecheap) and hosting ($6.95 a month at anhosting) First year total price of your blog is $92.69. I spent more than that on coffee.
Why I Ask?
I was doing my daily 300 entrecard drops. When I came cross a post that made me stop and read. So I was reading bloggernoob post “Investing A Lot Of Time On Blogspot Blogs” and I totally feel the same way.
Any serious blogger would buy his/her own domain and hosting. No blogspot blogger that says their serious can tell me anything. You spent more on snacks in a month than on buying a domain and hosting. So theres no reason not to buy them. It makes me mad when blogspot bloggers say they serious about blogging and using a free host. Are you serious or you just want to mess with people minds? I can tell you now that I do not nor will I ever subscribe to a free hosted blog.
If I can spend money on domain and hosting, you can too. You can easily make the money you spent on the domain and hosting back + more within the year. If you can’t do this then blogging is seriously not for you.

I have witten about this several times, it is a “must do” if you want to take seriously blogging. I think people don’t register their own domain because they are a bit afraid of electronical transfers or they don’t have credit card. A domain name is so cheap to register that I can’t find any reason for not doing it when you have an idea for something.

Actually you have a point. And I even blought a domain from blogger but it was full of problems and after two weeks, I am stiill with blogspot without a custom domain! Grrrr!
As for the hosting, I want to establish first before I shift to hosting, I am relocating soon and I do not know what will happen with my blog when I will be in another country, so hostung can wait. I have been complining about my custom domain, which, as u said is only $10, yet that was the domain the suits my blog’s theme. I cannot afford to lose or replace it.
Oh and you are right, they (aside from me) take the next level, and as you said, hosting and stuff. I have seen blogspot bloggers with Alexa rank less than 100XXX can you imagine? Hell! That one is tryly serious!
Great observation post!

there are a lot of reasons why folks remain with blogspot despite the fact that they are getting serious with their blogging. for one, migration to a domain can be like pulling teeth. some fear that the google juice they’ve garnered over the time they’ve been using blogspot will be lost (and this is very valid I think). Others are just not that geeky enough to handle their own domain.

Free Blogger Templates if they started with a domain and host from the beginning (stop being so checp) they wouldn’t have that problem. A person don’t have to be a geek to run their own blog on a domain. People spend more money on their faovrite snack than on domain and hosting for a year.

what is wrong with staying on blogspot and making money? I think it is more about convenience than money.

Convenience or not it shows that the person is unprofessional. Blogspot is for bloggers just having fun. Serious bloggers on the other hand it is a must to have domain and hosting.
